THE SKIPPER
Me llamo Feli, tengo 46 años y nací en Bilbao. Bióloga de profesión, siempre he sido una amante del mar.
A great friend of mine introduced me into the sailing world and started participating with him every weekend in the snipe regatta of Santander.
Step by step I start learning knowledges about this new world, taking part in many races all around the country.
It was a great and sacrified time , everyone who has tried the Snipe class will kow what I mean!
After some years we started in J80 class, and a few years later doing cruising races
Then I started doing crossings, and was there where I realised what I really wanted was not to take part in competitions, but to relax and get plasure in just the fact of being saling, to breath pure and fresh air, the silence..... and not only that facts, but also to have the control of the sailboat by myself, being able to sail alone. So that five years ago I took the oportunity of getting my actual ship, the "MIRALEJOS", wich I will describe better later.
I really like sailing alone. I enjoy a lot, but also to do it accompanied and share the sensations. Shared is always more!!! !
I decided last year to turn my life around and try to dedicate myself to what I like the most, so I got to the work with the titles that I needed to be able to do with my ship.
Actually I´m the equivalent of yatchmaster ocean in spain titulations, and I continue preparing myself.
THE BOAT
Here is one little big ship, I cannot express all the satifacctions he has bringed to me... and taking care of him maybe is one of the best things I have done in my life.
Os lo presento, se llama Miralejos y tiene 44 añitos. Es un Hunter Europa 616, todo un clásico. Mide 5,5 metros de eslora, cala sólo un metro y tiene el francobordo muy bajo, así que cuando navegas en él te sientes muy cerca del agua; si hay ola, pues salpica, pero eso hace que las sensaciones sean mucho más extremas. Es un barco muy divertido. Se asemeja mucho a la vela ligera pero no vuelca y además es un mini-crucero, lo que lo convierte en una alternativa muy cómoda para aprender.
It is well equipped in safety: the most important thing perhaps, the engine, a powerfull four stroke 10 hp Honda outboard , never fails!! , in difficult situations you will keep calm knowing it will take you back to shelter doing 7-8 knots .
Miralejos also has a VHF radio with DSC, Autopilot Raymarine, Plotter, Genoa furler, automatic bilch pump, and of course all security measures required for a ship of its characteristics on list 6.
The Quantum candles, in good condition, the largest is small, and yet the genoa is huge for its size. I love it. Don't stick too much, but it doesn't matter. Navigate very fast and compensatory.
It also has an Asymmetrical and a Spi with a minitangon, wose size is perfect to for everyone to master skills..
Being small also has its limitations, so there will be some days where it would be better to stay inside the Abra. Plans will always be considered about the day selected. The most importat thing is and always will be your security and the boat´s.
yo thought saijling was restricted to men?
